Retrospectives

Well we have come to the end of the year! This was a very special year during which few things went as planned, a year in which we would like to turn the page a little faster ... Lots of people are languishing for 2021 for various reasons ... and I suppose that deep down, we also because baby n° 2 should arrive in April!! And also we hope to be able to return to Europe for a time in the summer of 2021!

But that doesn't mean that 2020 has been a bad year ... it has been difficult, yes, full of challenges, yes, tiring, yes! But God has a plan for everything and COVID-19 is not something that has been out of His control.

Thinking back to the year 2020, we see that a lot of positive things have happened ... 

We are offering you a little sample of positivity at the end of the year 2020 ...

Pregnancy No.2

Rachel's pregnancy is going really well, while at the beginning the doctors were worried and told us that it was better not to get too carried away ... After several ultrasounds and several medical appointments, we were reassured and today everything is fine. Rachel is almost 6 months pregnant and by mid-April we should welcome the 4th member of our family.

Supporting the families

Even with a pandemic and slow-moving activities, we were able to continue supporting a lot of families in the favela. Lots of home visits that we rarely had time to make and therefore making a lot of new contacts too. Thanks to everyone's support, we were able to distribute a little over 300 food packages, around 80 gas bottles and 50 hygiene kits. About 150 families were able to benefit from this emergency aid.

COVID-19 and us

No one in our family has been sick despite the fact that in the favela the mask is used very little. We try to apply the 2 metre barrier and wear the mask as soon as we go out but by being in contact with a lot of people (and many who do not respect these guidelines) we exposed ourselves a little. We are grateful that no one living in Casa Rocha got sick but one of our staff who lives in an apartment on our street caught the virus and had to isolate herself, but all is well for her!

Community Development School

From mid-August to the end of November, we were able to participate as staff in a course about community development offered by YWAM Belo Horizonte and 4 members of our team participated as students. This course is directly linked to our work and our team was strongly encouraged to take advantage of this pandemic to be able to participate in the course. It was an opportunity to think a little more about what we do and why we do it ... It is difficult to "help" in the most efficient way and we are sometimes called upon to help the fastest or most comfortable way for us or even sometimes in the most visible way ... But this is not always what will give the most lasting fruit! We hope to be able to rethink some aspects of our ministry by keeping in mind all that we learned in the school.

Being Blessed Back...

This year we were able to see the recognition of several families that we have been working with for several years. 

* It's very moving when, one day we receive an invitation from a family whose son has been participating in the group of children for several years, who last year participated in the family camp, with whom we invested a lot of time this year because the 20-year-old daughter discovered she had cancer.... Our whole team was invited by this family to eat a "canjiquinha" (a kind of soup) at their home!  It was a great time all together and the food was delicious!

* Another woman from the favela also invited us for a "café da tarde" (a kind of late afternoon snack). We've been working with this woman and her children for 6 years now, going through very difficult moments when she has come to us  to ask for our advice and prayers. Other moments she doesn't accept what we say or because it isn't what she would like to hear... but the family is making progress and this is recognised even by her children. Well, she wanted to welcome us with homemade biscuits and she even gave Rachel a lesson on how to make them... The 3 staffs who were present had a great time with lots of laughter and filling our stomachs, but also having a time to encourage and guide!

* We also have a very good relationship with a (very) young couple. Julio, 20, was part of the teen group and then when he was 18 he started helping us quite a bit each week at Casa Rocha, until he got hired at McDonald's where he has worked now for more than a year. Kimberley just turned 17, has been living with him at Julio's mother's house for almost 2 years. Her family history is very complicated and we were a little afraid when they told us that she was pregnant, at 15 (nearly 16) years old. But since their son Arthur was born, we are happy to see that they are still together (which is rare enough in the favela), that they take their role as parents very seriously and that they are caring very well for their son and give him what he needs. We invited them to our house a few times for dinner and each time they said they wanted to invite us to eat too ... They kept their word and recently invited us at noon. They told us that they were stressed because they don't have a place for a table and so we ate on the sofa and they didn't really know how to receive us! But what a great time we were able to spend with them, grateful for their effort and hopefully we were able to show them that it's not important how they receive us, we just love being with them!

* We also received an invitation to dinner with someone who surprised us a lot! In 2014, Nico started working in the cracolandia with crack users. This is where he met Renato one evening, sitting on the ground, completely in another world, who didn't want / couldn't even speak. Renato asked for help and he was able to be sent to a rehab center, Nico visited him during his treatment. A few months later he started using crack again because of a disappointment, but he asked for more help ... To shorten the story, it's now over 4 years since Renato quit drugs! Since he married a woman he met at church, he has worked as a receptionist in a museum for more than 3 years and, he took advantage of the pandemic to take the exams to be a firefighter and completed an occupational safety technician course. He succeeded in both!! Renato invited us to his home one evening to introduce his wife to us but also to tell us how grateful he was for our help and to show us that it was worth it!You can imagine it: a very moving dinner!

* Another person who wanted to show us his appreciation is Adilson, the father of a 15 year old girl who has been involved in our activities since she was little. We have been helping his family for several years and they benefited from emergency food aid this year. He volunteered to wash our 4 in house water reserves which are in the attic (in Brazil, we use 'water tanks' instead of receiving city water). There are 4 tanks of 1000L of water each that must be sanitised once a year and we did not even know it ... Needless to say that our tanks in Casa Rocha had never been cleaned since my (Nico) arrival in 2014. Well it's done, Adilson gave 2 Saturday morning to clean them up and show us how to do it.

Changing Cars

Casa Rocha had a Kombi for its activities. This year we had to change this vehicle for several reasons, including the fact that the insurers would not renew the insurance of this vehicle due to the lack of security. We evaluated several options, the vehicle that best met our needs at affordable prices was a FIAT DOBLÓ ADVENTURE. We want to thank God, because we managed to sell the Kombi and get the new car we wanted in three days. Everything was very fast! Nico put the ad to sell the kombi on Tuesday morning; at 1 p.m. the kombi was sold; on Thursday evening Nico goes to buy the Dobló (from someone we know) and on the way back he receives an email indicating that a donation had arrived in the Casa Rocha account for the amount that was missing to pay for the car! God surprised us once again with such great care for us, GOD IS GOOD!

Christmas 2020

We are also grateful for a good Christmas! Our plan for this year was to spend it in France but in view of the situation, we decided to stay in Brazil and take our vacation, if possible, in the summer of 2021 ... So we organised in Casa Rocha a little Christmas Eve with 6 other adults and 3 children (staff from other YWAM projects) who also did not return home for the holidays. And on the 25th, the three of us spent the day together just our family. It was a very pleasant time! And Lorenzo loved opening up his presents and we all enjoyed a special Christmas dinner.

Thank you again for your support, your prayers and your messages during the year 2020 ... We are counting on you in 2021! Until we can meet, if you want to continue praying, here are some topics:

- Thank God with us for having kept, protected and blessed us despite the very different year 2020.

- Pray with us as we take several times of prayer over the next 3 weeks to plan for the year 2021 with several changes in the activities offered ...

- Pray that in 2021 we will see even more transformations in the families we work with.

Retrospective...

Et bien nous sommes arrivés à la fin de l'année! Cette année si particulière durant laquelle peu de choses se sont passées comme prévue, année de laquelle on aimerait tourner la page un peu plus vite... Plein de personnes languissent 2021 pour diverses raisons... et je suppose qu'au fond, nous aussi parce que bébé n°2 devrait arriver en avril !! Et aussi nous espérons pouvoir revenir en Europe pour des vacances à l'été 2021! 

Mais cela ne veut pas dire que l'année 2020 a été mauvaise... ça a été difficile, oui, plein de défis, oui, fatiguant, oui! Mais Dieu a un plan pour tout et la COVID-19 n'est pas quelque chose qui fuit de Son contrôle.

En repensant à l'année 2020, on voit que beaucoup de choses positives qui se sont passées... On vous propose un petit panache de positivité en cette fin d'année 2020...

- Grossesse #2

La grossesse de Rachel se passe super bien alors qu'au début les médecins nous faisaient bien comprendre qu'il valait mieux ne pas trop s'emballer... Après plusieurs échographies et plusieurs RDV médicaux, on a été rassurés et aujourd'hui tout va bien. Rachel est bientôt à 6 mois de grossesse et mi-avril normalement on devrait accueillir le 4ème membre de notre famille.

- Aide aux familles de la favéla

Même avec une pandémie et des activités au ralenti on a pu continuer l'accompagnement de pas mal de familles de la favéla. Beaucoup de visites à domicile qu'on avait rarement le temps de faire, pas mal de nouveaux contacts aussi. Grâce a votre soutien à tous, on a pu distribuer un peu plus de 300 colis alimentaires, environ 80 bouteilles de gaz et 50 kits d'hygiène. Ce sont environ 150 familles qui ont pu bénéficier de cette aide d'urgence.  

- Covid-19 et nous

Personne de notre famille n'a été malade malgré le fait que dans la favéla le masque ne soit que très peu utilisé. On essaie d'appliquer les gestes barrière et de porter le masque dès qu'on sort mais en étant en contact avec pas mal de gens (et beaucoup qui ne respectent pas ces gestes) on s'exposait un peu. On est reconnaissant que personne de Casa Rocha n'ait été malade. Une de nos staff qui habite dans un appartement dans notre rue l'a elle attrapé et a dû s'isoler, mais tout va bien pour elle! 

- Ecole de Développement Communautaire

De mi-août à fin novembre, on a pu participer en tant que staffs à une école de développement communautaire offert par JEM Belo Horizonte et 4 membres de notre équipe ont participé en tant qu'étudiants. Ce cours est directement lié avec notre travail et on avait fortement encouragé notre équipe à profiter de cette pandémie pour pouvoir participer au cours. Ça a été l'occasion de réfléchir un peu plus à ce qu'on fait et pourquoi on le fait... C'est difficile "d'aider" de la manière la plus efficiente et on est quelques fois amenés à aider de la manière la plus rapide ou la plus confortable pour nous ou même des fois de la manière la plus visible... Mais ce n'est pas toujours ce qui donnera le plus de fruits durables! On espère pouvoir repenser quelques aspects de notre ministère en gardant ces idées en tête. 

- Reconnaissance des personnes accompagnées... 

*Cette année on a pu voir la reconnaissance de plusieurs familles que nous accompagnons depuis plusieurs années. C'est émouvant quand un jour on reçoit une invitation d'une famille dont un fils participe au groupe d'enfants depuis plusieurs années, qui a participé l'an dernier au camp pour familles, avec qui on a investi pas mal de temps cette année car la fille de 20 ans a découvert qu'elle avait un cancer.... Toute notre équipe a été invitée par cette famille pour manger une "canjiquinha" (un genre de soupe) chez elle!    

*Une autre femme de la favéla nous a aussi invité pour un "café da tarde" (un genre de goûter en fin d'après-midi). Ça fait 6 ans que l'on travaille avec cette femme et ses enfants, que l'on passe par des moments très proches où elle demande nos conseils et nos prières et d'autres moments où elle n'accepte pas ce qu'on peut lui dire ou parce que ça ne va pas dans son sens... Et bien elle a voulu nous recevoir avec des biscuits faits maison et elle a même donné une leçon à Rachel de comment les préparer... Les 3 staffs qui étaient présents se sont bien régalés!

*On a aussi une très bonne relation avec un (très) jeune couple. Julio, 20 ans, participait au groupe d'ados et puis quand il a eu 18 ans il a commencé à nous aider pas mal pendant a semaine à Casa Rocha, jusqu'à ce qu'il se fasse embaucher chez McDonald's où il travaille depuis plus d'un an. Kimberley, 17 ans depuis peu, vit avec lui chez la mère de Julio depuis presque 2 ans. Son histoire familiale est très compliquée et on a eu un peu peur quand ils nous ont annoncé qu'elle était enceinte. Mais depuis que leur fils Arthur est né, on est content de voir qu'ils sont toujours ensemble (ce qui est assez rare dans la favéla pour être souligné), qu'ils prennent leur rôle de parents très au sérieux et qu'ils cherchent vraiment à comprendre leur fils et à lui donner ce dont il a besoin. Nous les avons invités chez nous quelques fois pour dîner et à chaque fois ils disaient qu'ils voulaient nous inviter aussi à manger... Ils ont tenu parole et nous ont invités récemment à midi. Ils nous ont confié qu'ils étaient stressés car ils n'ont pas de place pour une table et donc on a mangé sur le canapé et ils ne savaient pas trop comment nous recevoir! Mais quel bon moment on a pu passer avec eux, reconnaissant pour leur effort.

*On a aussi reçu une invitation à dîner chez quelqu'un qui nous a beaucoup surpris! En 2014, Nico a commencé le travail dans la cracolândia avec les usagers de crack. C'est là où il a rencontré Renato un soir, assis par terre, complètement dans un autre monde, qui ne voulait/pouvait même pas parler. Renato a demandé de l'aide et il a pu être envoyé en centre de désintoxication, Nico lui a rendu visite pendant son traitement. Quelques mois plus tard il a recommencé le crack à cause d'une déception, et il a redemandé de l'aide... Pour raccourcir l'histoire, cela fait maintenant plus de 4 ans que Renato est sorti de la drogue! Depuis il s'est marié avec une femme qu'il a rencontré à l'église, il travaille comme réceptionniste dans un musée depuis plus de 3 ans et, il a profité de la pandémie pour passer les examens pour être pompier et a fait un cours de technicien de sécurité au travail. Il a réussi les 2 !! Renato nous a invité chez lui un soir pour nous présenter sa femme mais aussi pour nous dire combien il était reconnaissant de notre aide et nous montrer que ça valait la peine! Vous l'imaginez: un diner bien émouvant!

*Une autre personne qui a voulu nous montrer sa reconnaissance est Adilson, le père d'une jeune fille de 15 ans qui participe de nos activités depuis qu'elle est petite. Nous accompagnons sa famille depuis plusieurs années, ils ont bénéficié de l'aide alimentaire d'urgence cette année et il s'est proposé pour laver nos 4 réserves d'eau qui sont dans les combles (au Brésil, on utilise des "réserves d'eau" au lieu de l'eau directe de la ville). Ce sont 4 réservoirs de 1000L d'eau chacun qu'il faut hygiéniser 1 fois par an et on ne le savait même pas... Inutile donc de dire que celles de Casa Rocha n'avaient jamais été nettoyées depuis mon arrivée en 2014. Et bien c'est chose faite, Adilson a donné 2 samedi matin pour nous les nettoyer et nous montrer comment il faut faire. 

  

- Changement de véhicule...

Casa Rocha avait un Kombi pour ses activités. Cette année nous avons dû changer ce véhicule pour plusieurs raisons, y compris le fait que les assureurs ne renouvelleraient pas l'assurance de ce véhicule à cause du manque de sécurité. Nous avons évalué plusieurs options, le véhicule qui répondait le mieux à nos besoins dans des prix abordables était une FIAT DOBLÓ ADVENTURE.

Nous voulons remercier Dieu, car nous avons réussi à vendre le Kombi et à acquérir la nouvelle voiture que nous voulions en trois jours. Tout a été très rapide! Nico a mis l'annonce pour vendre le kombi le mardi matin; à 13h le kombi était vendu; le jeudi soir Nico va chercher le Dobló et sur le chemin du retour il reçoit un email comme quoi un don était arrivé sur le compte de Casa Rocha du montant qu'il manquait pour payer la voiture ! (le vendeur qu'on connait avait accepté de nous céder la voiture en payant une partie à l'achat et l'autre échelonnée). Dieu nous a encore une fois surpris avec un si grand soin envers nous, DIEU EST BON!

- Noël 2020

On est aussi reconnaissant pour avoir pu passer un bon Noël ! Notre plan pour cette année était de le passer en France mais au vu de la situation, on a décidé de rester au Brésil et de prendre nos vacances, si c'est possible, à l'été 2021... On a donc organisé à Casa Rocha un petit réveillon de Noël avec 6 autres adultes et 3 enfants qui ne rentraient pas non plus chez eux pour les fêtes. Et le 25 on est resté tous les 3 en famille. C'était un moment très agréable!

Merci encore pour votre soutien, vos prières et vos messages durant l'année 2020... On compte sur vous en 2021 ! En attendant qu'on puisse se voir, si vous voulez continuer à prier, voici quelques sujets :

- Remerciez Dieu avec nous pour nous avoir gardés, protégés et bénis malgré l'année 2020 très particulière pour tous.

- Priez avec nous alors que nous allons prendre plusieurs moments de prière dans les 3 prochaines semaines afin de planifier l'année 2021 avec plusieurs changements dans les activités proposées... 

- Priez pour qu'en 2021 on puisse voir encore plus de transformations chez les familles accompagnées.

Learning and growth

Coronavirus is still very close to us, we are constantly hearing of more people that have it but I think Brazil got tired of nearly 6 months of confinement and basically reopened everything - parks, shopping malls, restaurants, and gyms, but not schools! It kind of looks like life went back to normal except that the law still states that we need to use masks when we leave our house!

Here at the Rock House things changed too. In August we took a week off with no activities - until August we had been having our prayer times together, visiting the community during the week, and giving out donations every Friday and distributing food packages to nearly 100 families (each received 3 in total, one every 2 months) and this was possible because of you all! So although it wasn't like our normal busy weekly schedule, we felt it was time for a break before our second semester started. It had been tiring mentally and spiritually with a lot of questions and a team to lead when we were all in the unknown...

Nico and I decided to go to the beach for a week, taking all the coronavirus precautions - 11 hours driving so we didn't have to go through airports and filling the car with food so we wouldn't have to go out of the house a lot. Out of our 6 days on the beach, it rained 3 of them! And Lorenzo was sick for 5 of them!! So it didn't go exactly as we had planned, but it was a break away from our every day reality at the Rock House. It was some nice family time despite Lorenzo being off form. Our last day at the beach was the best - sun shining and Lorenzo back on form! We couldn't get him out of the ocean!!

So then we arrived back and started our second semester. Since coronavirus is still around we felt it unwise to return to our normal schedule but we decided to invest our time differently - learning and growing! In 2017 Nico and I completed a YWAM course focused on Community Development. The school was such a beneficial tool in forming the way we work with the community today so we wanted our team to have this same experience. Seeing it as a good time to invest in this we volunteered to help as staff of the course and 4 of our staff are doing the school. It started at the end of August and is going really well, each of the students (10 in total) are individually being impacted and are already putting into practice what they are learning.

The school has online classes 3 mornings a week and the other two mornings are discussion groups, discussing articles, books and the weekly film. The movies are chosen with the theme of the week and the book we are reading together is called "When helping hurts" from S.Corbett and B.Fikkert. It focuses on local churches being involved in their communities and how we work as missionaries with them, it is making us reflect a lot on this. In the afternoons the school requires 2 afternoons a week in the community which our team completes along with the other students from the school. Our Rock House team has another afternoon in the slum and every 2 weeks we have a team meeting one afternoon per week. So our schedule got pretty busy!

The time we spent during the previous months investing in the visits and time spent in the slum have been very interesting as we noticed people opened up a lot more than usual. Probably because of our schedule being more flexible without activities, we have spent more time chatting and visiting people in their home and without a time limit (sometimes arriving home 7/8pm). We heard a lot of stories and relationships have gone a lot deeper with many families that we know for a long time already. 

For example, there is a single mum who shared with us that the second of her four children is actually not hers. Her ex-husband cheated on her and the girl got pregnant but didn't want the baby so left her at the door of this mum and although the father stayed around for a while, after he separated from the mum he doesn't want anything to do with the baby. So this mum has been raising a child that is not her own and was the result of a betrayal, today the abandoned baby is a teenager. She also shared that her third and fourth children were basically the result of her boyfriend raping her as he was a very violent man and treated her very badly. Nico knows this family for more than 6 years since he arrived here and she never shared this part of her history. Knowing the story helps us understand this family situation so much better and we have been able to invest more specifically with each individual and the family unit as a whole. This has been a very positive fruit from this year and we continue to see the results as we continue to visit the community. 

Of course with Lorenzo, Nico and I cannot both participate in the morning classes (or the afternoon in the slum) so we take turns but mostly Nico is joining the classes. My involvement is more focused on walking alongside some of the female students of the school. Every YWAM course offers this individual help which is very important for the student and very interesting and challenging for the mentor. I am finding my role in this. I like to invite them to my home and have a tea or coffee with them and chat about what they are learning, how they are growing, where they are struggling etc. I am really enjoying this time and I am learning as I hear from them and we discuss what they are learning. We are excited to see what happens as the school progresses and the team is shaken in their knowledge and ideas. We are so excited to see where God takes us next year as we build on this time of learning and growing!

- Thankfulness for Lorenzo who is growing up well, is learning little by little to speak and already understands 3 languages (Portuguese, English, French). His favourite word are "ball" "juice" and "toot toot" which is a car!!

  

Apprentissage et croissance

Le coronavirus est toujours bien présent, nous entendons constamment des gens qui l'ont eu mais je pense que le Brésil s'est fatigué après 6 mois d'enfermement et a pratiquement tout rouvert - parcs, centres commerciaux, restaurants et gymnases, mais pas les écoles! On dirait que la vie est revenue à la normale, sauf que la loi stipule toujours que nous devons utiliser des masques lorsque nous quittons notre maison!

Ici, à Casa Rocha, les choses ont changé aussi. En août, nous avons fermé une semaine - jusqu'à présent, nous avons eu nos temps de prière ensemble, beaucoup de visites à domicile pendant la semaine et on disponibilise des dons de légumes et fruits tous les vendredis. Pendant ce temps, 3 colis alimentaires à près de 100 familles ont été distribués grâce à vous tous (au total 300 colis alimentaires et 50 kits d'hygiène)! Donc, même si ce n'était pas comme notre emploi du temps normal, nous avons estimé qu'il était temps de faire une pause avant le début de notre deuxième semestre. Ce temps de confinement et activités réduites a été assez fatigant mentalement et spirituellement avec beaucoup de questions et une équipe à diriger quand nous étions tous dans l'inconnu...

Nico et moi avons décidé d'aller à la plage pendant une semaine, en prenant toutes les précautions contre le coronavirus - 11 heures de route pour ne pas avoir à passer par les aéroports et remplir la voiture de nourriture pour ne pas avoir à sortir de la maison beaucoup. Sur nos 6 jours à la plage, il a plu 3 jours! Et Lorenzo était malade 5 jours !! Cela ne s'est donc pas déroulé exactement comme nous l'avions prévu, mais c'était une pause loin de notre réalité quotidienne à Casa Rocha. Et c'était du bon temps en famille malgré le fait que Lorenzo soit malade. Notre dernier jour à la plage a été le meilleur - le soleil et Lorenzo en forme! Nous n'arrivions pas à le sortir de l'océan !!

Puis nous sommes revenus et avons commencé notre deuxième semestre. Étant donné que le coronavirus est toujours là, nous ne pouvons toujours pas accueillir de public mais nous avons décidé d'investir notre temps différemment - apprendre et grandir! En 2017, Nico et moi avons suivi un cours de JEM axé sur le développement communautaire. L'école a été un outil tellement bénéfique pour repenser la façon dont nous travaillons avec la communauté aujourd'hui, alors nous voulions que notre équipe vive cette même expérience. Voyant que c'était un bon moment avec du temps pour investir dans ce cours, nous nous sommes portés volontaires pour être staffs de l'école et 4 membres de notre équipe sont élèves. Cela a commencé fin août et se passe très bien, chacun des élèves (10 au total) est individuellement impacté et tente déjà de mettre en pratique ce qu'il apprend.

L'école a des cours en ligne 3 matins par semaine avec un thème et un prof différent chaque semaine et les deux autres matins sont des groupes de discussion sur des articles, des livres et un film hebdomadaire. Les films sont choisis selon le thème de la semaine et le livre que nous lisons ensemble s'appelle "Quand aider fait du tort" de S.Corbett et B.Fikkert. Cela amène toute une réflexion sur l'implication des églises locales dans leurs communautés et sur la manière dont nous travaillons en tant que missionnaires avec elles, sur ce qu'est la pauvreté d'un point de vue biblique et les différentes formes d'aide qui existe. L'école demande 2 après-midi par semaine dans la favéla que notre équipe complète avec les autres élèves de l'école. Notre équipe a un autre après-midi dans la favéla et toutes les 2 semaines, nous avons une réunion d'équipe un après-midi par semaine. Notre emploi du temps est donc bien rempli!

Toutes les visites et le temps passé dans le bidonville ont été très intéressants car les gens sont ouverts beaucoup plus que d'habitude. Probablement à cause de nos horaires plus flexibles sans activités, nous avons passé plus de temps à discuter et à rendre visite aux gens chez eux. Nous entendons beaucoup d'histoires et les relations sont allées beaucoup plus loin avec de nombreuses familles que nous connaissions déjà depuis longtemps. Il y a cette maman, par exemple, qui nous explique que le deuxième de ses quatre enfants n'est en fait pas le sien. Son ex-mari l'a trompée mais la femme qui est tombée enceinte a laissé le bébé à la porte de cette maman et le père ne voulait rien avoir à faire avec le bébé. Nico connaît cette famille depuis plus de 6 ans depuis son arrivée ici et elle ne nous l'avait jamais dit. Cet adolescente faisait partie de nos programmes pour enfants et nous ne le savions pas.

Bien sûr, avec Lorenzo, Nico et moi ne pouvons pas tous les deux participer aux cours le matin, nous nous relayons donc mais surtout Nico participe aux classes. Mon implication est plus centrée sur l'accompagnement aux côtés de certaines étudiantes de l'école. Chaque cours de JEM offre cette aide individuelle qui est très importante pour l'étudiant et très intéressante et stimulante pour le mentor. Je prends mes marques dans ce rôle. J'aime les inviter chez moi et prendre un thé ou un café avec elles et discuter de ce qu'elles apprennent, de leur croissance, de leurs difficultés, etc. J'apprécie vraiment ce rôle. Nous sommes ravis de voir ce qui se passe à mesure que l'école avance et que l'équipe se remet en question dans ses connaissances et ses idées. Nous sommes déjà curieux de voir où Dieu nous emmènera l'année prochaine alors que nous bâtirons sur cette période d'apprentissage et de croissance!

- Reconnaissance pour Lorenzo qui grandit bien, apprend petit à petit à parler et comprend déjà 3 langues (portugais, anglais, français). Ses mots préférés sont "ball" (pour ballon), "juice (pour jus) et "toute" (pour à tout à l'heure).
