Hey! If you don't know, my name is Rachel Hewitt, I am from Northern Ireland but have been studying/volunteering with a missionary organisation in Brazil for the past year and half on and off. I am at home now but am going to return in March to work with them.

[The organisation is called YWAM (Youth With a Mission) and they work in the city of Belo Horizonte in Brazil. They have many projects up and running throughout the city such as community centres, shelters, rescue work, work with pregnant teenagers and so on. For more information please visit:

So, I guess "Blogging" is the new "in" thing to keep people updated... so here goes, this is the beginning of my blogging! For my first one I want to give you a bit of information on the title etc:

"The Journey"  I called my Blog 'The Journey' the reason for this is, I feel that I am on a journey, walking along with God. And it is such an exciting journey, it has taken me many places already (Africa, Canada, Europe, Brazil and even home). Journeying with God has been great so far and I suppose this blog will begin to display some of this journey for you to read. I really hope you like walking this journey with me... let's wait in expectation for what God is going to do!

"Break my Heart for what Breaks Yours" This is an extract from a song called 'Hosanna' by Hillsongs. It is one of my favourite worship songs and it has such powerful words (check out the lyrics here: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/h/hillsong_united/hosanna.html )
These words are the cry of my heart daily, for God to break my heart for the things that break his heart in this broken world.

"Pinky in Brazil" You might think, strange name for your blog web address. But, there is a story: When I was in Brazil the first time, I lived in the Boys shelter which had 8 boys living there who had previously been living on the streets. Their names were very difficult to remember, let alone pronounce! Try saying; Caique, Henrique, Vinicius, Welbert all in the portuguese language!! Well, I had a bright idea to make up nick names for the boys, which they loved! And, in turn they made up one for me: Pinky! Pinky because, well, my skin is pink! And I wear a lot of pink and have a lot of pink things! My name stuck and so I am now called Pinky, in Brazil!!

Well, that's it for today, hope you enjoyed it and it wasn't too long. I look forward to sharing many other insights into my life with you here on this blog spot. Thanks for reading. xx
