Plusieurs activités

Le temps à l'école vole!! 
Deux mois sont passés et plus qu'un à venir! Comme on vous l'avait expliqué dans le dernier post du blog, on a commencé un cours avec JEM ici à Belo Horizonte appelé "Fondements en développement Communautaire". On voulait faire ce cours en équipe puisque le travail de Casa Rocha est dans ce domaine de développement communautaire. On a appris pas mal sur notre vision du monde, ce qu'est la pauvreté, le développement et ce que la Bible en dit.
On était un groupe de 7 étudiants et ça a été une bonne expérience d'apprendre ensemble.
Même si on a vraiment aimé ce temps d'apprentissage, on languit le 10 novembre, quand le cours se terminera et qu'on pourra penser à comment mettre en pratique ce qu'on a appris.
Ce sont trois mois assez intense avec tous les devoirs et le travail de Casa Rocha qu'on a continué. Mais on est super content d'avoir pu tout faire!

Dans la classe!

Transformation de MaryLee (nom changé)
Elle s'ouvre pour être prise dans les bras! Ensuite elle demande si je peux aller chez elle pour prier pour son mari qui est malade! Normalement, dans la favela, je (Rachel) ne suis pas trop surprise par ce genre de requête, mais venant de MaryLee... Elle a commencé à participer au groupe d'aquagym de femmes il y a environ un an. Elle arrive toujours en retard, pressée, juste un mouvement de tête pour dire bonjour, toujours grattant quelque chose dans son sac pour ne pas avoir à parler à qui que ce soit. Elle est toujours la première hors de l'eau pour choisir les meilleurs fruits et légumes reçus en dons et rentre chez elle. On se demandait toujours pourquoi elle venait au groupe, elle ne participait pas à tout le cours, elle ne parlait pas aux autres, elle ne restait pas pour le temps de partage. Ça n'avait pas de sens.

Mais petit à petit MaryLee a commencé à s'ouvrir avec Dora (une autre staff) qui est allée lui rendre visite chez elle quelques fois pour lui montrer qu'on se souciait d'elle. MaryLee ne voulait pas vraiment que tout le monde la voit elle ou la réalité de sa famille: même si toujours avec son mari, ils dormaient dans deux chambres différentes à cause d'une maladie, une de ses filles est mariée mais a tellement honte de sa famille qu'elle ne vient jamais les voir, une autre souffre de dépression, un fils est mort il y a quelques année après s'être impliqué dans le traffic de drogues et le deuxième fils se cache depuis 8 ans à cause d'une menace de mort des mêmes dealers. MaryLee essayait de protéger sa famille et de tout assumer mais elle "coulait".

Petit à petit, MaryLee a commencé à rester un peu plus à la fin des leçons d'acquagym pour le temps de partage avec les autres femmes et a pu entendre combien Dieu aime et s'occupe d'elle et sa famille. Elle a commencé à s'ouvrir davantage, et ce jour là c'est elle qui m'a embrassé! Avant elle nous serrait à peine la main. Et maintenant elle nous demandait de prier pour son mari! Quelle transformation!!
Donc j'y suis allée avec une autre staff, on a prié et partagé une parole d'encouragement avec eux. A la fin MaryLee et son mari nous ont serré dans leurs bras. Un mois plus tard, le mari de MaryLee a été hospitalisé de nouveau et est décédé. C'est fou de voir comment Dieu peut travailler les personnes quand on ne sait pas quoi faire. Je suis reconnaissante à Dieu d'avoir pu être témoin de cette transformation dans la vie de MaryLee. 

Groupe d'ados garçons

Quand on a commencé le cours, on a dû faire quelques changements dans l'emploi du temps des activités. On a arrêté un groupe d'enfant le matin mais on sentait qu'il fallait continuer le groupe d'ados garçons. On l'a donc déplacé au soir. Ce groupe est assez spécial pour nous... plein de jeunes viennent à Casa Rocha parce qu'il y a la piscine... Mais ces garçons participaient même sans nager, seulement pour discuter et passer un bon moment ici. La première semaine qu'on a passé le groupe au soir personne n'est venu, la semaine suivante deux jeunes et maintenant on en a 9. On est bien content qu'ils viennent et même s'ils sont jeunes (13-15ans) ils ont un gros potentiel. On a reçu il y a deux semaines des entrées pour le film "The case of Christ" au cinéma et on y a amené ces jeunes. C'était un super moment et certains d'entre eux n'étaient jamais allés au cinéma.









Nico à l'église

De temps en temps, Nico a l'opportunité de prêcher dans des églises de Belo Horizonte. Même s'il est toujours un peu stressé, on le voit comme une bénédiction et une chance de pouvoir partager sur Casa Rocha et encourager les églises locales. Les églises qui nous reçoivent font toujours une offrande pour Casa Rocha donc ça aide aussi le travail qu'on fait ici. 


La dernière fois qu'il a été invité, on lui a dit qu'il avait une heure au total. On a donc décidé d'inviter les trois filles qui avaient participé au camp King's kids en juillet (post précédent). Elles ont répété 2 danses à Casa Rocha la semaine avant pour se coordonner à nouveau. Le dimanche on est tous allé à l'église avec leurs familles et elles ont présenté leurs danses. Elles et leurs familles étaient super fières et l'église a beaucoup apprécié. Nico était pas trop mal non plus, haha. 







Batterie en bande!












"On fait une bande!" s'est exlamé un des garçons qui participe du cours de batterie les yeux brillants et tout excité. Le prof avait dit qu'ils allaient faire un exercice ensemble en tentant de faire ce qu'ils avaient appris jusque là et pour Kauã c'était énorme! Ce cours n'a plus que 4 élèves depuis que 3 autres ont arrêté: Nico et 3 enfants. Mais ils sont tous super réguliers et ils aiment apprendre ensemble. Ce jour là quand la classe est terminée, les staffs ont demandé s'ils pouvaient assister à une présentation de la bande. Ils étaient un peu stressés mais ils ont bien réussi. Pour Kauã c'était énorme qu'on l'applaudisse! C'est vraiment bon de voir ces enfants réaliser quelques uns de leurs rêves ici à Casa Rocha, en utilisant les talents que Dieu leur a donné. On est aussi vraiment reconnaissants pour nos volontaires qui viennent avec fidélité pour enseigner à ces enfants ce qu'ils savent faire. 

 

Many activities....

School is flying by!!
Two months gone and one to go!! As we explained in our last post, we started a school within YWAM here in Belo Horizonte, called "Foundations in Community Development." We were very interested in doing this school as a team as the ministry of the Rock House works in the area of community development. We have been challenged on our worldview, what is poverty and development... and what the Bible says about these issues.
We have been in a group of seven students and it has been great to learn together.
Although we have really been enjoying this time of learning we look forward to the 10th November, when the school will finish and we can start thinking and putting into practice what we have been learning.
It has been a demanding time with the school, all the homework's and continuing the work at the Rock House. But we are happy that it has been possible to do everything!

Paying attention in class!

Transformation in MaryLee (name changed)
She opens her arms for a hug!!! Then she asks if I will go to her house to pray for her husband who was sick!!! Generally, in the slum I wouldn't be so shocked or astounded at this request, but this was MaryLee. MaryLee started coming to our ladies water aerobics group about a year ago. She would always arrive late, rushed, nodding to say hello, all hunched over her bag making it look like she didn't want to the world to see her. She would be the first out of the swimming pool, grab the donations we offered and ran off home. We asked ourselves, why does she even come to the class, she doesn't complete the class, she doesn't talk to anyone, she doesn't stay for the word and prayer at the end. It seemed hopeless.
But gradually MaryLee began to relax a little more and Dora another worker visited her home a few times opening up a love and commitment we had to her and her family. MaryLee really didn't want the world to see her, although still together with her husband, they sleep in separate rooms, one daughter is married but is too ashamed of her family that she never visits another daughter has depression, one son died many years ago due to getting involved in the drug trafficking and another son has been hiding indoors for 8 years because of a death threat from these same drug dealers. MaryLee was trying to keep her family together but was failing miserably.

Gradually MaryLee began to stay a little longer after the class and was able to hear about God who loves and cares for her and her family. MaryLee began to open up more and more. Now on this day, she instigated the hug! The most we would get from her before was a light touch from the hand in a form of a handshake. And now she was asking for prayer for her husband!
WHAT A TRANSFORMATION!

So I went with another staff worker, we prayed, shared a word with them and encouraged them, At the end we offered more hugs and both MaryLee and her husband accepted. Unfortunately, about month after this visit her husband was readmitted to hospital and passed away. It is so amazing to see how God can work in situations when we really see no resolve! He is greater and He is seeking out the hearts of the lost. I thank God so much that I could be a witness to this transformation in the life of MaryLee!


Boys Group

Since we started the school we had to make some changes in our schedule here at the Rock House, we couldn't continue our morning activities. We cancelled one group but felt God wanted us to continue the teenage boys morning group, so we moved this group to the evening. This group is a very special group.... many kids and teens come to the Rock House just to use the pool.... But in this group of boys they were already coming and many times choosing not to swim, to just hang out talking or playing x-box.
So we decided to try to do the group at night. The first week no-one turned up. then two boys, then three. Now we have about nine who come! We are happy that they are coming and although a young group of 13 to 15 years old we see great potential in each of these boys. We received free cinema tickets to see "The Case for Christ" so we took seven from this group. It was a great night and they loved the film!







Nico Preaching
Every now and agian Nico has the opportunity to preach in churches in and around Belo Horizonte. Although this creates a lot of extra work in a very busy schedule we see it as a blessing to be able to share about the Rock House and encourage members of the family of God. These opportunities when they arise also bring in a little offering toward the work of the Rock House which is always much appreciated!


The last church Nico was offered a slot of one hour, after setting down the phone, he exclaimed, "How can I preach for one hour!?" After some thought we decided to invite the three girls who went to the Kings Kids Camp in July (remember them?!) we invited them to the Rock House and we chose two songs and practised til they were feeling confident and excited! Then on the Sunday we went along with their families and they performed wonderfully!! Nico's preaching wasn't too bad either! haha. He did an awesome job! What a great opportunity!





Druming around!












"We are making a band!" exclaimed one of the students from the drum class! His eyes were bright and excited. The teacher had told them that they were going to put together what they had been learning and this was the best thing ever in Kauã's life, it is his dream to play in a band! There are only four students in this class, Nico and three kids! But they are very faithful and love learning together! After the class had finished we asked if they wanted to perform for us (to the staff) they were so nervous but did so well! They were all pleased when we gave then a round of applause! It's amazing to see these precious kids fulfilling their dreams here at the Rock House, finding what talents God has given them and being able to have the opportunity to use it!  We are so thankful for our faithful volunteers who come and are as excited  to teach as the kids are to learn!

Notre Dieu est bon !

Normalement on essaie de n'écrire qu'une histoire par post, mais ces deux derniers mois il s'est passé tellement de chose qu'il vaut mieux vous préparer pour un peu de lecture!! Mais c'est de belles histoires car notre Dieu est bon et c'est parce-qu'il est à l'oeuvre ici qu'on a autant à écrire!! 

Anniversaires!!

Après la grande célébration, en mai dernier, des 30 ans de la base de JEM à Belo Horizonte, on a décidé de continuer. Continuons à fêter les anniversaires! Ça faisait un moment qu'on voulait commencer à fêter les anniversaires des enfants avec qui on travaille, spécialement parce-que les enfants de l'église de Rachel en Irlande du Nord épargnent de l'argent pour cette raison et du coup on a pu commencé ça à Casa Rocha. On le fait tous les deux mois avec une petite fête dans chacun des groupes et les premiers étaient ceux qui avaient leur anniversaire en mai et juin!

On a pris un moment pour expliquer aux enfants pourquoi leur anniversaire est important. C'est la date que Dieu a choisi pour qu'ils naissent et parce-qu'ils sont spéciaux pour Dieu, cette date devient spéciale. On a prié pour eux et ensuite on a partagé le gateau! Certains d'entre eux n'ont jamais eu un gateau d'anniversaire!

Le futur, c'est quoi!?

Chaque semaine les adolescentes arrivent toutes contentes de connaître le projet qu'elles vont réaliser dans leur groupe d'artisanat. Chaque semaine les staffs essaient de faire quelque chose différent et à chaque fois le résultat est bien joli. Avant que leur créativité n'explose, le groupe commence avec un temps de partage sur la bible.

Une semaine, elles devaient imaginer qu'elles avaient 75 ans et regarder en arrière dans leur vie... C'était super dur pour elles. Mais c'était carrément impossible pour l'une d'elles! Elle nous a dit: "Mais je ne pense jamais à mon futur, quel est l'intérêt si je sais même pas si je serai en vie demain?!" Quelle surprise! La réalité de sa vie est telle qu'il est autant possible pour elle de ne plus être en vie demain que de l'être.

En exprimant cela elle nous a donné l'opportunité de partager avec elle en lui expliquant que Dieu a un plan pour sa vie et qu'elle devrait essayer de découvrir ce que c'est. Elle a commencé à penser différemment et à la fin elle a même pu répondre à quelques unes des questions et exprimer quelques rêves pour son futur.   C'est notre désire pour chacune de ces précieuses personnes qu'on rencontre au travers de Casa Rocha, enfants ou adultes, qu'ils puissent "...être transformés par le renouvellement de l'intelligence afin de discerner quelle est la volonté de Dieu". (Romains 12:2)  

Cycles dans la favela!

En 2010, quand Rachel a participé ici à Belo Horizonte d'un cours avec JEM appelé "Enfants en situation de risques", elle a entendu une phrase qui est restée gravée... "Changer un enfant change une vie, un enfant change sa famille, cette famille change sa communauté". A Casa Rocha on est témoins de ça.
Nivaldo habite dans la favela, il y est né et y a grandi. En 2009, son fils a commencé a participer des groupes d'enfants à Casa Rocha, apprenant toujours plus sur Dieu et partageant avec sa famille. L'équipe de l'époque a commencé à rendre visite à Nivaldo et sa femme et rapidement tous les deux ont donné leur vie à Christ. Aujourd'hui ils sont nos amis et continuent leur marche avec le Seigneur et tous les deux aident à Casa Rocha dès qu'ils le peuvent.

Ce sont des exemples dans leur communauté et récemment Nivaldo est venu donner son témoignage aux adolescents du groupe. Quelle expérience de l'entendre raconter aux garçons son histoire de drogues, de dealer, de vie gâchée finalement transformée quand il a rencontré Jésus. Il a partagé l'histoire de la bible de l'aveugle que Jésus a guéri, expliquant qu'il était lui-même aveugle et ne voyait pas ce qui avait de l'importance, mais maintenant il voit et il veut aussi dire aux gens de regarder à Jésus! 

Quel exemple et encouragement pour nous pour continuer à nous impliquer ici dans la favela dans la vie de ces enfants et familles... 

Voyage de mission

On a eu l'opportunité tous les deux d'aller servir dans une autre mission ici au Brésil, utilisant ce don que Dieu nous a donné de pouvoir parler plusieurs langues et aider avec de la traduction. Chaque année, un groupe d'une église d'Orlando (USA) vient à Porto Seguro et avec une église locale, ils réalisent un programme d'évangélisation. Dans les actions, il y a distribution de baskets pour les enfants, de brosses à dents et dentifrice, de lunettes de lecture pour adultes et l'évangélisation. Ils le font au travers du "livre sans paroles" en utilisant un bracelet qu'ils distribuent à chaque personne rencontrée. 

Le projet est vraiment bien organisé et lié à une église locale qui peut continuer par la suite le travail. C'était une super semaine où on a vu le Seigneur agir dans cette ville et on a rencontré des personnes qui ont tellement envie de partager ce que Dieu a fait pour elles et pouvoir prier avec les gens! C'était un temps de renouveau pour nous dans notre appel ici au Brésil.

Finallement mon frère au Brésil!!! (celui de Rachel, Nico il en a pas)

Après 7 ans qu'il lui promettait qu'il allait venir, il a finalement fait le pas! Gareth est venu avec sa copine Julie et on a passé 2 semaines super! On a pu prendre quelques jours pour leur montrer un peu de la beauté du Brésil. Ensuite on a passé du temps à Casa Rocha pour leur montrer la favela et ce qu'on fait ici. Ils ont vraiment aimé et on les a collés à quelques travaux de peinture! C'était tellement bon d'avoir des membres de la famille avec nous ici!

 

Quelques travaux finis... d'autres toujours à faire!

Comme on l'a partagé déjà, les travaux de rénovation et maintenance ont commencé! On a maintenant un nouveau toit au préau qu'on utilise pour les groupes. Tous les bois ont été poncés et vernis et des tuiles neuves ont été posées ainsi que des nouvelles gouttières. On attends maintenant de voir si on aura toujours des fuites... il a pas plu depuis avril!! On a aussi pu terminer la construction d'un nouveau WC pour enfin pouvoir séparer masculin et féminin. 

Quand le maçon a fini on était content de voir 2 grandes réformes terminées... mais on a dû passer 3 journées entières à nettoyer toutes la poussière!
La semaine dernière, on a aussi peint les nouveaux murs du toilette et du préau. Le résultat est bien sympa! MERCI à tous ceux qui ont rendu cette maintenance possible. Bientôt on espère pouvoir continuer avec la suite des travaux...  

Kings Kids

"Les enfants du Roi", c'est ce qu'on ressenti 3 jeunes filles quand elles ont grimpé dans le kombi pour aller au camp organisé par un autre projet de JEM Belo Horizonte appelé King's kids. Ce camps a un coût relativement élevé et il est quasi impossible pour une famille de la favela de payer pour que leur enfant participe. Mais on a reçu des dons spécialement pour que l'on puisse envoyer 3 enfants qu'on accompagne à Casa Rocha. Les 3 filles choisies ont entre 10 et 12 ans et elles étaient aux anges d'avoir l'opportunité d'y aller.
Pendant ce camp, elles ont été enseignées et encouragées à lire la bible seules, elles ont eu des temps de louange, des temps en petits groupes pour échanger et prier et elles ont appris des danses, du cirques et des petites scenettes de théâtre. 

Elles ont aussi participé à des temps d'évangélisation utilisant ce qu'elles avaient appris et elles sont même allées présenter dans une prison pour ados. La dernière soirée, elles ont fait une présentation pour les familles. On était tellement heureux que chaque parent des 3 filles soit venu avec nous voir la présentation de leur enfant! Et c'était beau de voir leur fierté!

Go Team 

Chaque année on reçoit une équipe de jeunes hollandais au travers de JEM Hollande pour une courte mission. 

Cette année c'était une équipe de 5 qui étaient sous la responsabilité d'un couple venu avec leur deux enfants. On a pu réaliser différentes actions avec eux, que ce soit dans la favela, dans une crèche du quartier, ou dans un centre de désintox (quelques assoc partenaires)... C'était une belle opportunité de servir différemment la favela et d'autres projets. Ils nous ont aussi aidé dans le "Défi2017" de réformer Casa Rocha. Ils ont peint!  Ce sont eux qui ont peint le préau et le nouveau toilette. Leur temps a été court mais ça a été un temps d'apprentissage et de croissance tant pour eux que pour nous!  

POINTS DE PRIÈRE:

• Pour que les travaux de maintenance puissent être tous réalisés cette année.
• Pour les enfants, les ados et les familles qui sont touchés par le travail de Casa Rocha, que Dieu puisse continuer de travailler leur coeur. Spécialement pour cette ado qui a appris à rêver, pour Nivaldo et sa femme qui ont été transformés et qui le montrent dans leur favela et pour que ces 3 filles qui ont participé au camp puissent se rappeler de ce qu'elles ont appris et être des exemples dans leur famille.
• Pour notre équipe durant ce second semestre, on va participer à un cours de JEM appelé "développement communautaire" pendant 3 mois avec les cours le matin et les activités de Casa Rocha qui continuent les aprèm et le soir. 

• Notre volontaire Ruth, elle a fait un stage de 6 mois avec nous et elle repart cette semaine. Elle a été d'une grande aide et elle va manquer aux enfants, aux familles et à nous.

Our God is Good

Normally I stick to one story per blog, but these last two months have just had too much going on, so prepare yourself, this is one of the longest ones yet!! But its a good one because our God is Good and it is because He is doing so much here that we have so much to write about!!

Birthdays!!

After the big celebration in May of 30 years of the YWAM base, we loved it so much we decided, why stop there! Let's keep celebrating birthdays! It has been on our hearts to start celebrating the birthdays of the kids in some way especially as the children from Rachel's home church raise money specifically for this here in Brazil, but we were yet to start this here in the Rock House. We have now decided to do on a two monthly basis a small birthday party in each groups! In each group we celebrated together everyone who had a birthday in the month of May and June!

We took time to explain how important their birthday was because it is the date God chose for them to be born and since they are special the date is special! We prayed for them and then of course had some cake and nice juice! They were so pleased! Some of these kids may never have had a cake!

Future, What's that!?

Every week the teenage girls arrive excited to see what project they will be doing, this group is focused on arts and crafts! Each week is something different and each week they produce beautiful work! Before the creativity explodes the group starts with a time of sharing the word with these precious girls!

One week they had to imagine they were 75 and looking back on their lives.... it was very difficult for them. But it was impossible for one of them, she exclaimed, "But I never think of the future, whats the point if I don't know if I'll be alive tomorrow!" What a way of thinking! The reality of her life is that it is more possible to not make it until tomorrow than make it! 

Her expressing this gave us the opportunity to share with her telling her God has made a plan for her therefore she should seek to discover what it is. She began to think differently and in the end was able to complete the questions and realise some of her desires for the future! This is our desire for each precious person that we meet through the Rock House, whether child or adult that they can "...be transformed by the renewing of your mind." (Romans 12:2)

Cycles in the Community!

In 2010 during the school 'Children at Risk' that I (Rachel) did here in Brazil I heard a quote that stuck with me.... "change a child change a life, a child can change their entire family and a family can change an entire community." (Not exactly worded like that but you get the idea). Here at the Rock House we are witnessing just that. Nivaldo is from the community, born and raised there. In 2009 his son started coming to the children's group at the Rock House, learning about God and going home to tell his family. The Rock House team also visited Nivaldo and his wife and soon both of them accepted Christ as their Saviour. Today they are our friends and continue strong in their walk with the Lord, both of them help and volunteer at the Rock House when available. 

They are examples in their community and recently Nivaldo came to give his testimony to our teenage boys group. What an experience, to hear him tell the boys his story of drugs, drug trafficking, a life wasted and then to turn his life around when he met Jesus. He shared the story of the blind man made to see by Jesus, telling the boys that he was blind to see what really mattered, but now he sees and wants to tell others to see Jesus too! 

What an example and an encouragement to us to keep investing in the lives of the kids and families here in the slum.

Mission Trip

We had the opportunity as a couple (Nico and I) to go to serve another mission here in Brazil, using the gift of language that God has blessed us with! Every year a group from a church in Orlando, USA come to a city called Porto Seguro and alongside a church they carry out an amazing evangelism programme. Giving out trainers, tooth brush and paste to kids, and reading glasses to the adults and of course evangelising. They do this through the 'wordless book' using bracelets to give out to everyone they meet. 

The project is very well organised and linking with a church from the city the work can continue building on what the team completes during the week. We had the opportunity to go and to help the Americans with translating. It was an amazing time to see God at work in this city and to meet others who are so willing to share their life stories and pray together etc. It was a time of refreshing for us and renewal in our calling here in Brazil.

Finally, my brother in Brazil!

After seven years of promising to visit, he finally took that long flight and came to visit us! Gareth came with his girlfriend Julie and we had a wonderful time together! We took a few days at the beach showing them the beauty of Brazil. Then we had a week together in the Rock House for them to visit the community and see a little of what we do here. They really enjoyed it and even got stuck into some more of the maintenance work: painting! 

It was so special for us to have them as it is always good to have family close! Although the time was short! We loved it!

 

Jobs finished.... more to do!

Like I mentioned in the last email the construction work has started! We now have a new roof on the big room that we use to host our groups, all the wood was sanded and varnished and then the tiles put on along with new drainage pipes! We are just waiting now to see if it works.... it hasn't rained since April! We also now have our second bathroom to host the community with a girls and boys bathroom what a blessing! 

When the builders were finished we were so happy so see these two big jobs completed.... only sad thing was it took us 3 full days to clean up after them, so much dirt and dust!!! In the last week we have also painted the new wall and the walls of the big room. It makes the house look so well! THANK YOU to each and everyone of you has made this a possibility! Soon, very soon we hope to continue the jobs so watch this space for more news!

Kings Kids

Children of the King, thats what three young girls felt like as they climbed into the kombi and headed for a 'winter camp' with a project from YWAM called 'Kings Kids.' These camps are super expensive and it would be impossible for a family from the slum to be able to pay for their child to go to the camp. But we received some money donated specifically for this and so we could send three kids to the camp. The three chosen girls, aged between 10 and 12, were ecstatic about the opportunity! 

During the camp they are taught and then encouraged to read the bible alone, they have worship times with teachings, small groups, prayer groups and they learn dances, drama and circus tricks! During the second part of the camp they go out to evangelise using the dances etc in the town squares, and even in the teenage detention centres! The last night they present what they had learned to their families. We were so honoured that each girl's family came with us to see them perform and they were all so proud of their daughters! And so were we!! 

Go Team 

Each year we receive a team of young people from Holland through YWAM for a short mission trip. 

This year we received 5 in the team and they were led by a family and their two young kids. We completed many extra tasks with them, more bodies means more things can be done! This included in the community, in a creche and a rehab (partners that work alongside us). It was such a great opportunity to bless this community and other ministries. We also got them helping us in this great challenge to restore the Rock House building, they got to painting! They painted to big room and the new bathroom and some other bits and pieces. It looks so well now! The time was short with them but it was a time of learning, growing and blessing others!

POINTS FOR PRAYER:

• For the construction work and refreshing of the Rock House to be completed
• For the kids, teens and families that are being impacted through our work here at the Rock House, that God will continue to stir their hearts. Especially pray for the teen girl who has learnt to dream again, for Nivaldo who has been transformed and is now pouring back into his community as an example and for the girls who were at the camp, that they won't forget all they learned and that they will be lights in their community too.
• For our team in the second semestre, we will do a YWAM course 'Community Development' which lasts for three months, completing classes every morning. Please pray for us as we juggle the demands of the course with the work we will continue at the Rock House.

• Our volunteer Ruth, she has been doing an internship with us for 6 months but leaves this weekend. She has been such a blessing and we, with the kids and families will miss here greatly.

It was the girls turn.... packed bags, blanket and pillow, happy faces filled with excitement and we were ready to go.... Camping!! Eleven girls turned up aged between 6 and 11, and we had such a great time! It was another camping weekend offered by Lamalma. We were unsure how the girls, especially the little ones would cope with the ropes course and camping in their own tent, but off we went!

We followed the same programme from the last two camps with the teen boys and the younger boys, but the Project Farol who organises the ropes course had a few new things for the girls to try... including a zip line! The girls were so afraid and didn't want to do it, but despite their fear each of them stepped forward and descended screaming at the top of their lungs... then saying, "I want to go again!!" 

Crossing the rope bridge had a few tears and stopping in the middle, frozen in fear, but the guys leading the course had so much patience with the girls, reaching out to them, calming them down and encouraging them to continue! Each one completed the task! The overwhelming joy that surfaced among them was incredible, to see their little faces light up after completing each task!

The guys explained that each one of us can conquer our fears we just have to trust in God! The girls really understood and as we went to do the forest trail to the waterfall on Sunday morning, one of them said, "I'm really scared, but I know I can trust in God to help me! Right?!" How amazing to see them growing in their faith.

Knowing girls, we knew they might not be as entertained with the football field as the boys! So we brought a box full of activities including games, art, bracelet making and books to read! The girls loved having the freedom in the afternoons to go from activity to activity, a dip in the freezing cold pool and then back to the activities!!

We were very thankful for the weather, for the last few weeks here in Brazil, it really has been cold with not much sun. So we were worried about the camp that it may be too cold for these little girls (never mind for us!!) But a few days before the camp it began to heat up again and during the camp we had temperatures of about 29C! Wow, God is so good!

It is incredible to see how God has been providing for us to have these camps, to take each time a small group with us to invest in our relationships with them, and to give them an unforgettable experience. Many of these kids have never even been out of the slum before! To watch their smiles and giggles and awe as they enjoy everything that is offered! For us to fill them up with happy moments and to share more about this Jesus who loves them so so much! We are so thankful to God for this.

PRAY with us: we really want to do a 'family camp' to take the families we work with away for a weekend! We talked about the possibility with the owner of this camp and she was very open to try. But this will be a lot of preparation as we work out financially if it will be possible! We believe we have this desire on our hearts because it is on the heart of God to work with the whole family and what an opportunity it would be!! Please join us in praying for an opportunity!
